Decorating Ideas for In-Between Seasons

Inspiration & Design No Comments

It’s so crazy how fast the holidays go by! After all the decorations are put away I feel like we fall into that “in-between” stage where it’s too early to break out the Spring stuff and too late to hang onto Christmas. It’s just blah! With it still dark and cold outside and I gravitate to anything that will make my house feel warm and cozy. As I struggle to find the perfect “fill-in” decor I thought I would share some decorating ideas for help fill your home during the “in-between.”

Click on the links to shop these favorites.

The crackle and glow of a fire, scents that warm your toes, and all things snuggly! Especially this time of year, these are my go-to’s.

Regardless of the season there is always room for a snuggly cozy blanket.

Pottery Barn Alpine Throw

Often throws tend to be folded and tucked away nicely in a cabinet until the next use. Try draping them over the side of a chair or sofa, folding and stacking several on the bottom of a coffee table, or tossing them in a basket to add a lived in coziness to the room.

Pottery Barn Textured Throw

You can never go wrong with a simple wooden tray, clear bowl, or a basket of fresh fruit. Things like red pears, green apples, mangos, and lemons offer a pop of color to brighten things up.

Most grocery stores offer grab and go fresh flower bouquets for less than $10. Since you are already there you might as well grab an assortment of your favorites and throw them in a vase or skinny planter. While the kitchen table or island are always a good place to show them off, think about putting them on your nightstand, coffee table, in the bathroom, or basement anywhere where they will make you smile.

Terrain Wood Bowl

Ok, I have to confess I may kind of, sort of, have a small fetish with candles. Really, maybe it’s more of an addiction. Ha! Fall and winter are my absolute favorite scents. Apple, cinnamon, caramel, pine, butterscotch….total comfort smells!

Presentation ranks right up there with smell! Mix and match candlesticks and candleholders in different heights and sizes. Tall candle holders offer so many options beyond candles, try adding stems or fairy lights to create a new look.

Kirkland’s Distressed Candlesticks

Many of you know I am a curator of all things different, unique, and full of character. It doesn’t matter what it is or where it came from, if I think it is unusual and fun I will find something to do with it. These are the kinds of things that give your home personality, style, and make you feel good.

Remember the Chicken Nesting Boxes I found via “curbside pick up?”  This may not be everyone’s idea of wall art, but to me it has a ton of character and unusual charm.

Old and new make a great combination and are easy filler pieces for in-between seasons. Simple items like empty pots in various sizes and colors can easily fill up an empty shelf or bookcase. Be creative, find an old dictionary with one of your favorite words, a page from an old book, or anything that has meaning to you and show it off in a frame. A framed piece of old sheet music is an inexpensive and fun way to spark memories.

Transitioning from one season or holiday to the next means markdowns and sales. Keep your eye out for simple pieces that end up on clearance throughout the year. Think of items that will add height like mirrors and candlesticks. Things like trays, pots, and bowls are great buys that can be changed out easily whenever you get the itch.

While it maybe cold and dreary outside that doesn’t mean you house has to feel the same. Watch the clearance and sale items and combine new pieces with some of your favorites to tide you over during the “in-between” until Spring officially arrives.

Be well and thanks for stopping by the blog today and always!
