One of my many design fetishes has to be doors and windows, but I also love floors. Let’s be real, I am a junkie through and through and there really isn’t anything related to design that I don’t drool over! But, when it comes to flooring, penny tiles have to be one of my favorites.
Old homes have a unique blend of personality and character that usually includes some kind of nostalgic tile design. For me, penny tiles have that same kind of aura and charm. You can mix and match colors to create different mosaic patterns or make statements with letters, words, or numbers. With so many options you can be as creative as you want!
These tiles aren’t just another pretty design, their non-slip texture makes them great for high traffic and wet areas. Think bathroom flooring, showers, entryways, backsplashes, and laundry rooms.
Even if there isn’t a design project in your near future, you’re going to want one of these AMAZING tile mats by Letterfolk, here. I am obsessed! Each mat has a rubber base that allows you to build your own designs. The tiles pop on and off so you can rearrange and change it up whenever you get the itch. Check out their story here, Watch the Tile Mat video.
Choose from one of their tile design kits or purchase the color sets you prefer and build you own. So clever! Bathrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms, front doors, the sky’s the limit. Love, love, love these!
Another great penny tile source is American Restoration Tile. Since they specialize in historical penny and hex tile patterns their designs have that warm and cozy old house charm. Shop their catalog for great inspiration and an amazing selection in various shapes, sizes, patterns and designs.
Be inspired:
Regardless of the pattern or design you choose, there is something so inviting and charming in the simplicity of these tiles. It makes me think of our grandparents homes, inviting and warm with a feeling of family.
When it comes to design the best kind is when it’s your own. Find your inspiration and follow your heart! There’s a ton of satisfaction when you can say, “that was my idea.”
